Adult Education

Sharpen Your Skills or Get Your High School Diploma

It’s never easy to go back to school, but Butler’s Adult Education program is here to help. Classes are available to strengthen your knowledge in math, reading, and critical thinking. And if you are interested in taking the GED exam, we can take you through a customized plan to strengthen your knowledge in the areas you find most challenging.

Note: GED exams can be taken on our El Dorado or Andover campuses by appointment, and Adult Education classes start every two months in several convenient locations. To reserve a seat at one of our orientation sessions, call us at 316.323.6074.

Enroll in Adult Education

Enrolling in our adult education classes has never been easier.

Just follow these four simple steps:

  1. Call 316.323.6074 and pre-register.
  2. Attend mandatory orientation sessions.
  3. Pay $30 materials fee.
  4. Attend scheduled classes.

GED Study Materials

Our Libraries, bookstores, and the Adult Education Department also carry GED study materials. Adult Education programs are located across the state.

    • Classes may meet Monday - Friday, and class attendance is mandatory. Attendance policies will be strictly enforced. You will learn more about the attendance policy in the Orientation Session.
    • Agencies paying your fees (i.e. Headstart, Mid-CAP, SRS, WIOA, churches, etc.) should give you a signed, written notice with billing information.
    • While we understand individual skills and goals vary, you are expected to progress during each class session. Upon completing an intensive class session, you may wish to receive additional instruction and enroll in another series of classes.
    • Basic technology and employability skills will be integrated into classes.

An AO-K Pathway to Employment or College

The Kansas Board of Regents, in partnership with the Kansas Department of Commerce, instituted the Accelerating Opportunity in Kansas (AO-K) program to transform adult education in Kansas by delivering career and technical education alongside adult basic skills instruction. As part of AO-K, students complete short-term certificate programs aligned with labor market needs, leading to important credentials and immediate jobs.

If you have been out of school for a while and are interested in pursuing a college degree, our AO-K program is a great way to sharpen your study skills in preparation for college. We can also help you identify areas you need to work on through placement testing. There are even classes for students who simply want to enrich their lives, such as basic literacy, English language skills, and digital literacy. For those that qualify, online courses are available.
