    Travel to Butler

International students should arrange travel to the Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport in Wichita (ICT), which is the closest airport. International students can request transportation to or from this airport if requested at least one week in advance. Airport transportation is not available in the week prior to the start of each semester or in the first week of classes. To request an airport pickup, complete the Airport Pickup Form and send it to international@butlercc.edu.

    Upon Arrival

    Step 4

New F-1 international students must check-in in person with International Office staff when they arrive. This can be done at either the Andover or El Dorado campus and is the first step for the pre-enrollment process. Bring your passport with you. Check-in is available on a walk-in basis Monday through Friday. Refer to your acceptance letter for your check-in deadline.

      Health Insurance

All full-time F-1 international students are required to purchase health insurance coverage before enrolling in classes each term. Butler Community College does not provide medical insurance. Because healthcare in the United States is extremely expensive, we strongly recommend that students have continued coverage without gaps between semesters. Students must submit documentation showing active coverage for the term before enrolling. Coverage must cover the full academic term.  All new students must take placement tests in English and Math before enrolling. Meet with an International Office Advisor or Specialist in El Dorado or Andover to get started on placement testing.

      Placement Testing

The first placement test is free. Students must bring a photo ID to take the placement test, such as a passport or student ID. We recommend allowing 3-4 hours for placement testing. Students should begin placement tests no later than 1pm.

      Tuberculosis Testing

International students from most countries must take a tuberculosis (TB) test in the United States before enrolling in classes, per Kansas Department of Health & Environment requirements. If you have had a TB test taken in the US within the last 5 years, you can submit a copy of those results to meet this requirement. TB tests can be taken for free at the College Health Office at either campus after you are admitted as a student. After completing the TB test, you will be given a paper saying you are cleared for enrollment. Give this paper to your International Advisor.

Once you have completed the pre-enrollment steps above, you are ready to enroll in classes! You must meet with an International Advisor to select your classes for the semester. Course enrollment must be done in person each semester. You must enroll before the semester begins. International Advisors are available on a walk-in basis. We recommend enrolling as early as possible for the best course availability, since course sections may fill and are not guaranteed. New student enrollment advising sessions typically take 30-45 minutes.

      Andover Campus

International Advisors are available on a walk-in basis Monday-Thursday 9am-5pm, and Friday 10am-5pm.

      El Dorado Campus

An International Advisor is available on most Thursdays from 9am-5pm. Call 316.322.3230 or email international@butlercc.edu to set up an appointment for advising in El Dorado.
