To ensure you start in the right math course, all students admitted to Butler must have a valid math placement score before enrolling.
We accept the following test scores:
MMPA is Butler’s own Math diagnostic placement test. An advisor will determine the appropriate test based on information you provide (see above). Most students start with MMPA #2, which covers Fundamentals of Algebra (developmental) and Intermediate Algebra. Some students may prefer to take the MMPA-Pre-Algebra test (developmental), which covers more basic math. The MMPA is a computer test, and most students take an average of 90 minutes to complete.
By taking a math placement test, you are setting yourself up for success and making sure that your college journey starts on the right path.
To determine your next steps, connect with an advisor who can review your scores, transcripts and available placement options.
A little preparation can go a long way! Butler offers a variety of resources to help you review key concepts, build confidence, and improve your placement — potentially saving you time and money on extra courses. Get started with study guides, practice test,s and tutoring support to ensure you're ready on test day!
ACCUPLACER helps students understand their current skill levels and provides Learning Resources to help them address skill gaps. ACCUPLACER scores let students know where they stand academically, which makes it easier for them to plan a successful path toward a college degree or workforce readiness.
The more you prepare, the smoother your path will be to achieve your educational and career goals.
