Why Testing Procedures Matter at Butler

Testing procedures at Butler Community College ensure a fair, accurate and efficient assessment process for all students. These procedures help determine appropriate course placement, credit eligibility, and academic readiness, setting you up for success from day one.

    Following Butler’s testing procedures ensures you get the most out of your education while keeping the process as seamless as possible.

    • Photo Identification is REQUIRED for ALL testers.
    • Headphones/earplugs are available upon request. All other accommodations may require Disability Services.
    • Certain items may be prohibited in the Testing Center, e.g., smartwatches, earbuds/AirPods, and headphones. Please contact a Testing Center if you have questions.
    • Children and non-testers are not permitted in Butler Testing Centers.
    • Testing Centers may need to limit room capacity. Every effort will be made to start scheduled appointments on time; however, unscheduled delays may occur.

    • Arrive on time to check-in at the Testing Center for your scheduled test..
    • Bring a photo ID (required), cell phone for Multifactor Authentication (MFA), any course materials allowed by your instructor. These items are subject to inspection. Pencils, scratch paper (if allowed) will be provided. Butler approved calculators and formula sheets will be provided, if applicable. Cell phones will be removed from the area before testing begins.
    • Lockers are available at some locations for student use to secure personal items. Please be aware Testing is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
    • Allow adequate time to complete testing within the Testing Center operating hours, and in only one session. Tests may not be started at one time and completed later.
    • At the conclusion of the test, please turn in all scratch paper and approved notecards, notes, etc., as requested by the instructor.
    • All make-up testing should be completed before Finals Week.
    • Homework cannot be submitted through the Testing Center without prior approval.
    • Before testing, check-in with the Advising Receptionist. You will be given paperwork to take to the Testing Center. If you are retesting, you will need to pay fees at Accounts Receivable prior to testing.
    • Students must have an admissions application on file prior to testing.
    • Non-Butler placement tests are subject to a $25 non-refundable fee.
    • There will be a $5 retest fee for each retested section, subject to the waiting period.
    • Students are not allowed to bring their own calculators for placement exams.

    Understand that if a test administrator notices the appearance and/or indication of cheating the appropriate faculty, Academic Dean and/or site adviser will be notified. Consequences will be determined in accordance with the Academic Integrity Policy.
