Starting college is a big step, and the Office of First Year Experience is here to help make that transition smoother and a lot more fun. We offer events, activities, and support to help you feel connected and confident as you begin your college journey. It all starts with orientation, where you'll get to know what to expect, learn about the many resources available to help you succeed, and meet friendly faces along the way.
During your first week of classes, we’ll have welcome events designed to help you connect with other students, get to know your instructors and staff, and start feeling at home on campus.
The journey into and through college is rarely an endeavor students take alone, and First Year Experience values the important role parents and families play. FYE is committed to providing information to parents and families about Butler and opportunities to help them feel part of the Butler community. We invite parents and family members to sign up for the Butler Family Portal by emailing Sherri Conard at sconard@butlercc.edu and completing a portal profile.
Note: Butler will only share general school information through the portal, not personal student data.
The FYE Office also works to support faculty by reaching out to students who may be in need of some kind of academic or personal support.
As a way to make every student a partner in the learning process and become life-long learners, an orientation class is offered. In OR 102-O Orientation, students will:
Note: Orientation is offered in-person and online. Visit with an academic advisor to decide which format is best for you.
Welcome Week events provide opportunities for Butler students to meet peers, connect with student leaders as well as faculty and staff outside the traditional classroom setting.
GrizzFest aids in the social engagement process and eases the transition to Butler by providing students with valuable information to help them learn the ropes as a Grizzly.
Lunch for Success Workshops engage students in conversation on topics related to student success. These "Power Hour" workshops are free and are offered on both the Andover and El Dorado campuses throughout the fall and spring semesters. Lunch is provided!
