If you tend to see a story at play within every game, match or competition, you’re likely interested in sports media. We challenge you to shoot and edit videos, create and conduct interviews with players and coaches, produce post-game content and script play-by-play and color commentary for live broadcasts. Unlike at a four-year university, you gain hands-on experience the first game of the season.
Travel with our nationally recognized athletic teams and cover their stories for our student-led media outlets, The Lantern newspaper, The Grizzly magazine and our radio and television stations, KBTL 88.1 The Grizz and BCTV Cable Channel 20. Your work from the sideline may also be posted on our social media platforms.

Our industry-experienced instructors give you opportunities to grow your sports media marketing and reporting skills, including travelling each year to the Kansas Association of Broadcasters (KAB) Seminar hosted by the Kansas City Royals. You have the chance to submit broadcasts for critique by professional sports reporters. The KAB and the Kansas Collegiate Media have awarded and recognized many of our students for stories and photography.
We offer in-state books and tuition scholarships for our Sports Media students and other Mass Communications students, even if you’re not a Mass Communications major.
