TEAS Testing

What is the Test for Academic Skills (TEAS) exam?

The TEAS is designed to see how prepared you are academically for nursing or allied health programs. It has 150 scored questions and 20 unscored ones (used for future tests), but you won’t know which is which, so treat every question like it counts. Each question is marked right or wrong — no partial credit — but don’t stress, there’s no penalty for guessing!

You’ll have a total of 209 minutes to complete the test, with each section timed separately, so managing your time well is super important.

The test covers four main areas: reading, math, science, and English language usage. Here’s a quick breakdown of the number of questions in each section:

  • Reading: 45 questions
  • Math: 38 questions
  • Science: 50 questions
  • English Language Usage: 37 questions

How do I prepare to take the TEAS test?

Students are encouraged to study and review all main areas of the exam as mentioned above before scheduling the exam.  Study guides are available in the Bookstore on both the El Dorado and Andover campuses as well as at the L.W. Nixon Library located in the 600 Building on the El Dorado campus. Students can also find free online study options at www.nursehub.com or purchase the TEAS study guide at the ATI Nursing Education website.

The TEAS exam may only be repeated three times per year with a total of seven times with the current ATI version of test.

How are your scores used for eligibility for consideration?

Students must score an overall composite score of 65.6% or higher to be eligible for consideration for the Nursing Program.  Should a student choose to retake the TEAS for an attempt at a higher score we would take the higher score of all attempts.
