FAQ for High School Students

    Students currently in high school are not eligible for federal financial aid. High school students have the opportunity to take classes at a discounted rate through our tuition waivers. For more information, visit: butlercc.edu/tuitionwaivers .

    Concurrent classes provide you with the opportunity to complete high school graduation requirements while earning college credit at the same time. It is a great opportunity for you to get a jump start on their college education at a reduced cost.

    Concurrent enrollment are classes offered at the high school for Butler credit and high school credit. Advanced Placement (AP) classes are advanced high school classes that can qualify for college credit based on exam scores. For more information on AP credit at Butler, see page 13 in the Concurrent Enrollment handbook. Early College Academies are a two-year cohort program offered by Butler Community College. You will earn both high school and Butler credit and can complete your Associate Degree the same time as your high school diploma. These classes take place on one of our campuses.     Because concurrent classes are offered for both high school and college credit, the grade received for the college class will go on both the high school and official Butler transcript. Classes taken while in high school are a part of your official record and will affect your overall Butler GPA. The grade received on the Butler transcript is sent to the high school for posting on your high school transcript.

    Homeschool students are eligible to enroll in college classes. Follow the High School Student Enrollment Checklist.

    International students are eligible to participate in concurrent enrollment, but must complete the International Application for Admission. You will be charged international tuition and are not eligible for Butler's tuition waivers.

    We believe that attending classes from the first day they meet is critical to student success. Butler does not allow students to enroll after a class has met twice. High school counselors may set specific deadlines for concurrent enrollment at your high school. Verify those deadlines/policies with your high school before adding or dropping a course.

    Butler does not allow any student to exceed 18 credit hours in one semester without special approval. We encourage you to consider extracurricular activities, work schedules and course rigor when selecting a course load each semester.

    Many of our concurrent course offerings are part of the statewide transfer program, which ensures that classes will transfer to any public institution in the state of Kansas. Students with specific degree and transfer plans are encouraged to visit with both the High School Academic Partnerships office and the transfer institution to ensure that courses will transfer. These questions can be answered at the time of enrollment with the High School Academic Partnerships or Academic Advising staff.

    If you decide to drop a class, you may do so with a full refund within the refund period. Before dropping a course, visit with your high school counselor to verify your schedule and graduation requirements. Refer to our registration deadlines for the refund period.

    High school students can earn an associate degree while in high school. This is more popular in our Early College Academy because of their career specific content. Students wanting to earn a degree outside of the Early College Academy would need to take additional course work outside of the high school day as all of the courses required would not be available through concurrent enrollment.

    At the end of each term, instructors are required to submit final grades to Butler. Once received, the grades are posted to your record. These grades can be found under Student Quick Clicks on in the MyButlerCC app or website. mepage. Grades being offered for both high school and Butler credit will also be sent to your high school to be posted on your high school transcript.

    You can take classes both online or on campus. If you are seeking dual-credit for these courses, you need to have them approved by your high school counselor.

    When you completed your application for admission, you were sent an acceptance letter containing your login information and instructions on how to register your account. If you cannot locate your login information, please contact the Butler Service Desk at 316.322.3306. If you forget your password, you can use the Password Reset tool located on the Butler homepage.

    Butler protects student records under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). You can grant anyone you choose access to your student information by signing an Authorization for Release of Information form.
