Language Growth

Today, despite advances in technology, approximately 20 percent of the U.S. population can speak a second language. When you embark on learning another language, you’re not only growing your world view and understanding of other cultures; you're also setting yourself apart in the workforce. Opportunities in both the public and private sectors increase for graduates who can speak a second language and have cross-cultural understanding.

These courses fulfill the humanities requirements in degree programs and the foreign language major. The department also offers specialized training for those who need technical language skills for specific occupations.

    Spanish Scholarship to Friends University

    Butler to Friends, save time and money

    Intermediate Spanish students with a level of proficiency and a love for the language are candidates to receive a scholarship to Friends University. Thanks to a scholarship endowment for Spanish degree students and a working relationship with Friends Spanish Department Chair Dr. Jerry Smartt and Butler Foreign Language Chair Kelsey Harper, Butler students have the opportunity to save thousands of dollars in tuition.

    Reaching fluency? Depending on your proficiency test score upon graduating Butler, you may fulfill more credit requirements at Friends University, placing you further along your degree path.
