Becoming a Veterinarian
Butler prepares you to successfully transfer to a four-year college and then head into a veterinary science program where you can obtain your Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. You must first graduate with a four-year degree, take specific exams and then apply to veterinary school to become a veterinarian.

Activities for Biology Majors
Student Lab Assistant Opportunities
If you love science experiments and lab work, you may love working as a student lab assistant. For just 10-15 hours per week, you earn money and gain experience at the same time. When you become a lab assistant, you learn how to use Petri dishes to grow microbes, incubate specimens, and care for a variety of lab equipment. Walnut River Water Festival
For several years (like decades), our Butler students come together with faculty and host hundreds of Butler County fourth and fifth graders as they learn about water quality during the Walnut River Water Festival. Butler’s biology professors, guest instructors and the Butler County Conservation District Coordinator teach area elementary students about water conservation. Students from the BEST (Butler & Emporia from Students to Teachers) program lead classes while Butler biology students serve as runners and classroom assistants. This is a great volunteer opportunity!
